The corrosion protection provided by normal zinc plating is enhanced considerably when alloyed with small quantities of iron (typically 0.6% of iron in deposit). This protection is further improved by the use of thick passivations and topcoats. In tests for one of our European OEMs, comparing zinc nickel plating to zinc iron with a thick film passivate and topcoat, our zinc iron actually met the salt spray requirements for the zinc nickel specifications.
