RMF installed its first Alkaline Zinc Nickel alloy plating bath way back in 1994. It produced a deposit of 94% zinc and 6% nickel. We are now on our third generation of Alkaline Zinc Nickel plating bath and produce alloys with 85% zinc and 15% nickel. We have found the market demands for better corrosion protection–primarily driven by corrosion specifications of major European car makers and the End of Life Vehicles Directive (banishing the use of hexavalent chromium conversion coatings)–have brought focus to the use of Alkaline Zn/Ni alloys containing between 12 and 16% Ni.

Applications

  • Underhood components
  • Tubing-fuel and hydraulic parts
  • Parts that will be bent, crimped, rolled, or staked after plating
  • Tight plating tolerances
  • Deep recess parts

Advantages

  • Excellent corrosion resistance, generally 5X better than pure zinc
  • Neutral salt spray results consistently achieve 250 hours to white,
1200+ to red with trivalent chromium passivates
  • Excellent corrosion resistance at high temperatures
  • Highest abrasion resistance of all zinc alloys
  • Coverage for deep recesses
  • Effective replacement for Cadmium Plating
  • Useful for avoiding galvanic corrosion when plated parts are in
    contact with aluminum
  • Clear and black trivalent passivates can be applied over zinc nickel

Part Size Capabilities

To handle the wide variation of parts required by our customers, our recipe-driven barrel alkaline zinc nickel lines are equipped with 48″ X 21″ barrels with varying barrel perforations. We have two recipe-driven automatic rack alkaline zinc nickel lines.
